The Italian Institute of Photochromy (Istituto Fotocromo Italiano, abbreviated as IFI) was founded in Florence in 1928 by engineer Vincenzo Balocchi. In addition to his engineering research, he was also a renowned amateur photographer and served as the art director for the Fratelli Alinari company.
-
Today, IFI continues to be led by the same family as in its founding years, with each product carrying its authentic Italian heritage. From the materials themselves, pattern design, to production and printing processes, everything is completed in Italy. The paper used is also Italian fine art paper, perfectly expressing the printed colors. This approach carries on the long-standing artistic style of Italy and other European countries.
-
For IFI, a rich sense of nostalgia and local character are the main directions for their creations. Drawing inspiration from opera, film, advertisements, and even architecture and world literature, their style is distinct and all-encompassing. Through these images, we can imagine the atmosphere of bygone eras. If you are captivated by medieval Europe, you might find much to appreciate in IFI's work!
