Beeswax and dammar resin are used as the main Wax painting basic materials, combined with the shellac burn technique, to paint on wooden boards, with the mandala as the theme, conveying the feeling of tranquility and stability.
About 900 mummy portraits by Encaustic Painting have been unearthed around the world, many of which can be seen in museums today. The 2,000-year-old wax figure is well preserved, and the colors are still rich, fresh and radiant. Some branches of Wax painting continued into the Byzantine era of painting. However, in the seventh century BC, Wax painting was replaced by the less costly tempera technique and thus fell into oblivion as a lost art.
Since the burning/melting of Wax or the use of hot liquid Wax is common to all techniques, they fall under the term "encaustic". Encaustic comes from the Greek word Enkausis (to burn).
As a painting method, Wax painting offers a wide range of possibilities for design and application, especially in the past ten years, Wax painting has greatly increased in popularity.
