The thin-necked dragon was often depicted raising its neck to hunt, but in reality, its cervical vertebrae could not support such a posture. The center of gravity in its neck meant it could only lift its head in shallow water, a risky maneuver. The thin-necked dragon may have used its long neck for steering, slowly swimming to stalk schools of fish. Its diet consisted of small bony fish, belemnites, scale-toothed fish, and nautiloids, and it may have swallowed small stones to aid digestion.
