Tainan West Market Outer Arcade Shops
Commonly known as the "Big Vegetable Market," it was located in the 4th block of the then Ximen Town. It was damaged by wind and rebuilt in the 9th year of Taisho, 1920.
In the 8th year of Showa, 1933, shops were added around it to enhance the Ginza commercial area, called the "Asakusa Commercial Arcade."
The arcade housed various shops, with an exterior style that bridged historical and modernist architecture.
As time passed, only the sections facing the current Ximen Road and Zhengxing Street, and the two areas facing Zhengxing Street, retain their past outlines. Their mottled colors reflect both past and present.
Passing through the entrance of the West Market is like stepping into a historical time tunnel.
