This is a tea cup & saucer from the rare "Blue Kosmos," said to have been produced for only one year in 1966. The plump, thick form is the "S model," designed by Ulla Procopé. Its stable feel in the hand makes it a practical shape for everyday use without worry. The vertical lines encircling the cup are designed by Gunvor Olin-Grönqvist. The pattern, reminiscent of Kosmos flower petals, is drawn one by one by the artisan's hand. The varying thickness and intensity of the brushstrokes, along with slight undulations, give each line a unique, hand-drawn character, and the impression of the blue subtly changes depending on the viewing angle. Soft blue-gray forms the base, overlaid with lines of varying blue shades. The glossy glaze makes the hand-drawn lines stand out, enhancing the striking beauty of the blue.
