《Pendleton》
Vintage shops in Japan often describe these shirts as "ultra-classic."
What makes this plaid shirt so special?
It's a timeless and captivating piece with over a century of cultural significance.
-
Its history dates back to the 1800s, an incredible legacy for a clothing brand!
Before Pendleton was established, they were crafting beautifully patterned woolen blankets for Native Americans, a core product line the brand continues to this day.
Their woolen mill opened in Oregon in 1909.
In the 1920s, the owners decided to expand the use of their wool and weaving expertise.
Beyond blankets, they applied their craftsmanship to robes and coats, and shirts became one of their early offerings, ultimately representing the brand's most iconic product.
-
There are several brands in the US known for their wool, like 'Woolrich,' founded in 1830, which we've featured before.
Each brand's wool quality has subtle differences.
Pendleton uses 'Umatilla wool,' a high-quality fiber that resists wrinkles, offers elasticity, insulation, and is water-absorbent and stain-resistant.
Some say wearing this wool feels like the fabric is breathing, with an exceptionally soft and comfortable touch.
-
In 1949, Pendleton began offering women's items.
In the 1950s, their '49er jacket' garnered significant attention.
It featured a plaid design, a hip-length cut, two large pockets, a single row of large shell buttons, and a lapel—a true 1950s icon. We have one in our collection this time!
-
No discussion of Pendleton would be complete without mentioning their distinctive label:
The 'royal blue fabric with gold embroidery'!
It's so iconic that many reproduction brands use it as their design template.
If you've browsed our Pendleton items in the shop, you'll notice variations in background color and embroidery thread.
For instance, blue backgrounds often signify men's items, while white backgrounds are for women's.
The layout also differs across various product types.
This latest arrival includes items from different eras, collections, and a variety of shirt styles.
