With a proud and spirited presence, the rooster calls forth the beginning of time and the awakening of rhythm. Like a familiar childhood memory, it perches upon a hibiscus hedge, its posture lively yet composed. Layers of plumage unfold one upon another, forming a stable and clearly defined visual presence. This piece is crafted using eggshell inlay combined with raised maki-e. Crushed eggshell fragments are meticulously set within the feathers and floral elements, creating a natural, layered iridescence. Over this, raised maki-e is applied with layers of gold powder, giving dimensional relief to both the wings and surrounding landscape. In particular, the hibiscus blossoms that emerge across the pen body appear vivid and animated through the raised maki-e technique, with details gradually revealing themselves as the pen is turned.
