Most pre-owned items from the past were handmade, imbued with the warmth of craftsmanship before the prevalence of machines. The artisan skills of major brands were many times more meticulous than machines, with every step exquisitely crafted! However, most processes today are now mechanized and then assembled by hand, lacking the fine detail of machine production. The most direct and visible comparison can be made by juxtaposing recent brand reissues of classic patterns with genuine vintage patterns from older eras. The level of detail in the patterns alone is entirely different. If you love classic patterns, you must seek out pre-owned items! Truly! In terms of style, older eras featured more simple, timeless, and enduring designs. Many new models today are actually reproductions of older ones. However, new models are priced higher than older ones. Furthermore, new designs are typically based on older models with added or altered elements. Ultimately, the designs become more complex than those of older models. I believe as you grow older, you understand one thing: the simpler, the more enduring! The quality of materials in older models is even better than in new ones. If you understand leather, you can tell that most new materials are inferior to older ones. This is mainly because the cost of high-quality raw materials is too high and their availability is scarce today, coupled with the fact that many brands had very high standards for finished products back then. The difference between new and old hardware is most easily seen. The hardware on many new models oxidizes and discolors after just one or two years of use. However, older models typically do not.
