They treated patients afflicted by the plague, donning specially designed attire to ward off the disease. The Plague Doctor's mask became a potent symbol of that era. Its distinctive bird-beak shape was ingeniously designed to hold aromatic spices and herbs, intended to mask unpleasant odors. The glass lenses over the eyes served to filter airborne droplets and pathogens, much like today's masks and goggles.
