**> Types of Cinnabar**
Water-Ground Sand, Emperor Sand, Purple Gold Sand, and Crystal Sand are all high-quality cinnabar varieties. Their **primary distinctions lie in color, texture, hardness, and production methods**.
**「Water-Ground Sand」**
**A true red with a slight orange undertone, presenting a warm, matte finish that gradually polishes to a lustrous sheen with wear, developing a beautiful patina.**
This cinnabar is meticulously ground into a paste with water, allowed to settle, and the upper layer of "turbid liquid" is collected. After further settling, the bottom cinnabar mud is air-dried and then pressed using traditional methods. Fine, uniform mineral flecks can still be observed on the cross-section.
**「Emperor Sand」**
**A richer, brighter red with enhanced hardness.**
Its production involves multiple stages of purification from natural cinnabar ore, including crushing, grinding, magnetic separation, water-grinding, and high-polishing, before being pressed using ancient techniques. Emperor Sand has a nearly imperceptible mineral sheen on the surface, with internal flecks. The surface is treated with a **high-polishing process** to achieve a metallic luster, particularly vibrant in sunlight.
**「Purple Gold Sand」**
**A purplish-red hue, with slightly lower hardness than Emperor Sand.**
This type is processed from natural cinnabar ore through stages of crushing, grinding, and screening, but **without the water-grinding purification**. Consequently, its surface is less refined and features scattered, starry mineral flecks.
**「Crystal Sand」**
**A purplish-red color with translucency.**
These are large cinnabar particles directly chipped from the ore, with clearly visible crystal grains on the surface. They appear transparent under light, emitting a fluorescent red glow.
**> Spring Ploughing, Autumn Harvest**
**All endeavors that unfold with grace, poetry, and beauty in this world tend to happen naturally, much like the cycles of the seasons.**
**Learn to slow down, quiet your mind, approach life with gentleness, and honor the power of time. Allow everything to grow organically, like a tree, steadfastly and without fear, developing clear rings of growth.**
**Our craftsmanship echoes this philosophy!!**
**> About Cinnabar**
The earliest written records refer to cinnabar simply as "丹" (dān). The character "丹" itself is a pictograph, depicting the act of digging a mine and extracting a mineral from within. Thus, "丹" visually represents the character "井" (jǐng - well) with a dot in the center, signifying something extracted from a dug mine – which is cinnabar.
As cinnabar is red, often a deep red, "朱" (zhū) also signifies red. Later, "丹砂" became known as "朱砂". "丹" and "朱" describe the color, while "砂" describes the form – irregular, granular mineral particles.
Cinnabar's color is enduring. Chinese calligraphy and painting are known as "丹青" (dān qīng), where "丹" refers to cinnabar. It is also an indispensable component of "Eight Treasures Seal Paste," with cinnabar as its primary ingredient.
From a Feng Shui perspective, cinnabar is collected from minerals imbued with the essence of the sun and moon, absorbing the pure energy of heaven and earth. Therefore, cinnabar possesses a strong yang magnetic field. We observe that jade feels cool to the touch, while cinnabar feels warm when held.
Historically, cinnabar has been indispensable in Taoist practices for drawing talismans, consecrating objects, warding off evil, and stabilizing energies. It has long been revered as a supreme item for attracting fortune, transforming luck, repelling malevolent forces, and inviting prosperity. It carries auspicious meanings of great fortune and well-being.
The "Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing" (Classic of Herbal Medicine) lists cinnabar as a superior-grade substance, frequently used in medicinal treatments for calming the spirit, detoxification, and alleviating insomnia and excessive dreaming.
For those of us living in the modern era, owning a piece of cinnabar jewelry can also serve as a means of self-cultivation, nurturing both the eyes and the heart.
**> Authentication**
**All cinnabar products in our collection are high-content cinnabar and possess significant weight. You may use the following methods for authentication:**
. Burning cinnabar will cause it to turn black. (Please heat indirectly. It is generally not recommended to burn finished products directly, as controlling the time and area can be difficult. Prolonged heating to blackening is irreversible.)
. Genuine cinnabar can draw orangey-red lines on paper. (To avoid damaging the product's appearance, please choose an inconspicuous area for marking or use the complimentary bead provided.)
**> Care Instructions**
1. Avoid Corrosion
Cinnabar is a mineral and insoluble in water. However, frequent contact with chemicals such as soap and shower gel can cause corrosion.
2. Avoid Contact with Metals
The mineral elements in cinnabar can absorb metal ions, leading to irreversible dulling or blackening.
3. Avoid High Temperatures
The mercuric sulfide in cinnabar only releases at temperatures of 380 degrees Celsius. Therefore, as long as cinnabar jewelry is kept away from high-temperature environments, it is safe to wear.
4. Avoid Collisions with Hard or Sharp Objects
Cinnabar has high hardness but is brittle; handle with care to prevent drops.
5. Cleaning
If your cinnabar appears dirty, do not soak it in water, as this can alter its original luster! Gently wipe it a few times with a slightly damp cotton cloth and allow it to air dry.
6. Oiling for Preservation
Apply a thin layer of white tea oil or olive oil to the finished product, allowing the surface to absorb the oil, which enhances its brilliance and clarity. After applying oil, sealing it in a brocade box with a layer of plastic wrap can prevent the oil from staining the velvet lining.
7. Frequent Handling
Regularly handle your cinnabar jewelry while wearing it. The skin's natural oils will impart a thin layer onto the surface, giving it an increasingly antique and elegant appearance over time.
The physical item is more exquisite and beautiful than the photos.
