The paper flower craft has a history of more than 260 years. As early as the sixth year of Emperor Qianlong's reign in the Qing Dynasty (1741), local people began to make paper flowers without branches and leaves. After the ninth year of the Republic of China (1920), it developed into potted flowers with flowers, branches, leaves and stems. The Buddhist paper flower ceremony was listed in the UNESCO World Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2009 and was designated as the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Gyeonggi Province in South Korea in 2017. In the past, paper flowers were widely used in various Buddhist and Shamanistic ceremonies. Paper flowers were also used to decorate court ceremonies to express the yearning for a peaceful and prosperous era. In addition, paper flowers are also used in important folk ceremonies such as weddings and funerals. It is said that paper flowers can be preserved for thousands of years, but in fact very few paper flowers have been preserved to this day.
