As a natural material, and due to the tanning process's minimal impact on the leather's integrity, minor "scratches," "wrinkles," or "vein marks" are occasionally present. We make every effort during the cutting process to avoid these or place them on less visible or non-stressed areas of the product. 2. Hand-Stitched Seams We do not use sewing machines for our products; all items are meticulously hand-stitched. Before stitching, special diamond chisels are used to create precise stitch holes in the leather, ensuring the signature wavy stitch pattern that distinguishes our work from machine-sewn goods. While this significantly extends production time, it is a crucial step where the leather artisan imbues the piece with its soul and a warm, tactile feel. 3. Hand-Burnished Edges Before finishing, the leather edges are carefully burnished and sealed. This process ensures the edges appear smooth, rounded, and natural. TANGENT LINEAR employs a unique edge-finishing method. First, the sharp edges are repeatedly smoothed with sandpaper. Then, an edge-sealing liquid is applied to create a flat surface, repeated 2-3 times. Finally, a layer of edge-sealing wax is applied, and the edges are repeatedly burnished with a polishing tool until they achieve a smooth finish. 4. Hand-Dyed Leather For our hand-dyed products, TANGENT LINEAR uses imported Fiebing's leather alcohol dyes from the United States. To achieve a uniform and natural coloration, we begin by slightly dampening the leather surface. The dye is then applied layer by layer with a sponge, gradually deepening the shade until the desired color is reached. Once dry, a color-fixing agent is applied to enhance colorfastness. The surface is also treated with water and wiped to remove any surface dust and further even out the color. As each piece is hand-dyed, subtle variations in color exist between individual bags, making each one unique.
