Water-flown cinnabar, Emperor cinnabar, Purple-gold cinnabar, and Crystal cinnabar are all high-content quality cinnabar. Their **primary differences lie in color, texture, hardness, and production methods.**
**「Water-flown Cinnabar」**
**True red of Chinese red, with a slight orange hue. The surface has a warm, matte finish that becomes more lustrous with wear, forming a patina.**
The production method involves repeatedly grinding cinnabar into fine particles to form a paste, mixing it with water, allowing it to settle, and then collecting the upper "turbid liquid." This is followed by further settling and precipitation (the water-flown purification method). The bottom cinnabar mud is air-dried and then pressed using traditional methods. Uniform, fine mineral flashes can still be seen on the cross-section.
**「Emperor Cinnabar」**
**The color is a richer red with a brighter luster, and it has higher hardness.**
The production method involves multiple processes such as crushing, grinding, magnetic separation, water-flown purification, and high polishing from natural cinnabar ore, gradually purifying it, and then pressing it using traditional methods. Emperor cinnabar has almost no visible mineral flashes on the surface, but has them internally. The surface undergoes a **high-polishing** process to achieve a metallic texture, especially under sunlight, enhancing the metallic feel.
**「Purple-gold Cinnabar」**
**The color leans towards purple-red, with slightly lower hardness than Emperor cinnabar.**
The production method involves multiple processes such as crushing, grinding, and screening from natural cinnabar ore, but **without water-flown purification.** Therefore, the surface is not as refined, and there are scattered small particles of mineral flashes, creating a "starry sky" effect.
**「Crystal Cinnabar」**
**The color is purple-red and translucent.**
Large cinnabar particles are directly chipped from cinnabar ore. The crystals are clearly visible on the surface, and under light, they are transparent, emitting a fluorescent red glow.
**> Spring Plowing and Autumn Harvest**
**Everything that unfolds gracefully, poetically, and beautifully in this world often happens naturally, just like the changing seasons.**
**Learn to slow down, clear your mind, treat life with softness, revere the power of time, and let everything grow naturally, like a tree, focused and unafraid, growing clear annual rings.**
**Our handicrafts are just the same!!**
**> Cinnabar**
The earliest written records refer to cinnabar with a single character, "丹" (dān). "丹" is an ideogram. Ancient miners dug pits, and within these pits, they extracted minerals. Thus, the character "丹" is essentially the character "井" (jǐng - well) with a dot in the middle, signifying the extraction of something from a dug mine. This something is cinnabar.
Because cinnabar is red, mostly deep red, "朱" (zhū) also means red. Later, "丹砂" (dānshā - red sand) came to be called "朱砂" (zhūshā - cinnabar). "丹" and "朱" describe the color, and "砂" describes the shape, referring to irregular granular minerals.
The color of cinnabar does not fade. Chinese calligraphy and painting are called "丹青" (dānqīng), where "丹" refers to cinnabar. Cinnabar is also an indispensable component of "eight treasures seal paste" (八宝印泥).
From a Feng Shui perspective, cinnabar is collected from minerals that have absorbed the essence of the sun and moon, embodying the positive energy of heaven and earth. Therefore, cinnabar possesses a strong yang magnetic field. We can observe that jade feels cool to the touch, while cinnabar feels warm.
Historically, cinnabar has been used in Taoist rituals for drawing talismans, consecrating objects, warding off evil, and suppressing malevolent influences. Cinnabar has long been regarded as a supreme material for enhancing luck, changing fortunes, suppressing evil, driving away malevolent spirits, attracting blessings, and accumulating wealth. It carries auspicious meanings of great fortune, prosperity, and peace.
The *Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing* (Classic of Materia Medica) lists cinnabar as a superior herb, often used in medicinal treatments for calming the spirit, detoxification, and alleviating insomnia and excessive dreaming.
Living in modern times, owning one or two cinnabar artifacts can also cultivate one's character, nurture the eyes, and soothe the heart.
**> Identification**
**All cinnabar products in our store are high-content cinnabar with a significant weight. You can use the following methods for identification:**
>. Burning cinnabar will turn it black. (Please heat it through an intermediary. It is generally not recommended to directly burn finished products as controlling the time and extent is difficult. Once blackened by prolonged exposure, it cannot be restored.)
>. True cinnabar can draw orangey-red lines on paper. (To avoid damaging the aesthetic of the finished product, please draw on an inconspicuous area or use the provided sample beads.)
**> Maintenance**
1. Avoid corrosion.
Cinnabar is a mineral and does not dissolve in water. However, frequent contact with chemicals such as soap and shower gel can corrode cinnabar.
2. Avoid contact with metal objects.
The mineral elements in cinnabar can absorb metal ions, causing irreversible dulling or blackening of the cinnabar.
3. Avoid high temperatures.
The mercury sulfide in cinnabar will only be released at temperatures of 380 degrees Celsius. Therefore, as long as you avoid exposing cinnabar jewelry to high-temperature environments, you can wear it with confidence.
4. Avoid collisions with hard or sharp objects.
Cinnabar has high hardness but is brittle. Be careful to prevent drops.
5. How to clean.
If you find your cinnabar is dirty, do not soak it in water, as this will alter its original luster! You can gently wipe it a few times with a slightly damp cotton cloth and let it air dry for a while.
6. Oil polishing method.
Apply a layer of white tea oil or olive oil to the finished product, allowing the stone surface to absorb the oil, making it more crystal clear and lustrous. If you apply oil and then seal it in a brocade box, you can wrap it with a common plastic film to prevent the oil from staining the brocade box lining.
7. Frequent handling.
Frequently handle the cinnabar jewelry you wear with your hands, allowing a very thin layer of oil to adhere to the stone surface. Over time, it will appear more ancient, elegant, and refined.
The actual item is more exquisite and beautiful than the photos.
