The coarse-grained red clay gives the clay a unique earthen feel. It is a clay with warmth and character. Instead of firing in the electric kiln that I normally use at home, I ask the pottery maker that I am currently using to do the firing. The pottery is fired using a method called reduction firing, which creates an oxygen shortage inside the kiln during firing, allowing you to enjoy a refined flavor that cannot be produced in an electric furnace. The glaze used is a white glaze that brings out the earthenware color. It is an original glaze made by the potter, and has a color and texture that can't be found anywhere else. After the glaze is applied all over the piece, it is then sprinkled on again with a ladle, and the patterns that emerge from the varying shades of glaze add an accent to the piece. The size makes it suitable for use as a serving bowl or as a single-serving dish. It can be used to serve simmered or stir-fried dishes, rice for rice bowls, noodles, and stews. I use a small electric kiln and an electric potter's wheel at home to make my pottery, and I do all of the processes by hand, from kneading the clay to shaping, bisque firing, glazing, and final firing. It is a little heavy to hold, but that makes it feel like pottery. Although we cannot mass-produce them, each one has its own unique expression, and you can enjoy the flavor that comes from being made by hand.
