Crafted from a coarser red clay, this bowl invites you to enjoy its cozy warmth and textured feel, unique to earthenware. The white glaze offers a smooth, glossy finish with a subtle, flowing characteristic often seen in Japanese ceramics. We've combined these two elements to create this cafe au lait bowl. While we've reissued this popular item many times, this particular version is deeper and larger than before. The glaze application is also thinner this time, allowing you to fully appreciate the pottery's characteristic slightly rough texture and the earthy quality of the clay. Its charming, rounded form fits comfortably in your hands, its curves nestling into your palms when you hold it with both hands. The off-white hue beautifully complements lighter dishes, like clear consommé soups, allowing their colors to shine through. It's also ideal for hearty stews, congee, or even desserts like anmitsu. We hope you'll enjoy it with a variety of your favorite dishes. All our pieces are handmade in our home studio, equipped with a small electric kiln and electric potter's wheel. Every step, from kneading the clay to shaping, bisque firing, glazing, and final firing, is done by hand. While we cannot produce in large quantities, each piece possesses a unique character, offering the distinct charm that comes from handmade craftsmanship. The item you receive will be identical to the one pictured. We currently have two pieces in stock. As each bowl has subtle variations in size and form, we have included photos of both items at the very end of the product images. While stock lasts, you are welcome to choose your preferred piece by letting us know your preference at the time of purchase. The base of each bowl is carefully sanded to ensure it won't scratch your table. We continuously explore new combinations of glazes and clays, creating a diverse range of pottery in various colors and shapes. To prevent this, we treat all our tableware with a food-safe sealant before shipping, so no pre-soaking (me-zame) is necessary. This sealing process requires 2-3 days, which is why our processing time is set to 5 days from order to shipment. If you prefer not to have the sealant applied, please let us know at the time of purchase. - Cutlery shown in the product images is not included. - We strive to capture and edit product images to accurately represent the actual items.
