Many friends around me find themselves trapped by worries in their careers, relationships, and families. Some resign themselves to their fate, while others bravely push forward. During a recent gathering, I was brewing coffee and listening to my old friends share their troubles. Although their concerns varied, I sensed a common feeling of being lost. It felt as if they each had a vast maze within them, where after making a difficult choice down one path, another fork appeared right before them. As I brewed, watching the ordinary water filter through the coffee grounds to become a cup that fuels the passion of so many, I suddenly felt the spiritual essence of coffee. An idea emerged: what if the pour-over filter were a maze? Could we, as we brew, transform those lingering anxieties in our hearts, even just a little, into a sweet cup of coffee as the water passes through? This was the moment the maze filter was born. The capacity is designed for a single serving because the mazes in our hearts are often internal dialogues. Every moment of self-doubt, every solitary space, is your own. Beyond the maze-like ribs inside the filter, there’s a city silhouette at the bottom. A little bee buzzes around, much like a lost soul in the city searching for direction, constantly humming.
