Set of Five Early Taiwanese Antique Brass Keys
Dimensions: Each grid on the display mat is one centimeter; a Taiwanese $10 coin is shown for scale.
As these are old items, significant scratches, dents, or deformations are to be expected. Please examine the images carefully. Shipping not available outside of Taiwan. Thank you.
These keys were commonly used for early Qing Dynasty, Japanese colonial era, and Republic of China era camphor wood wardrobes, chests, drawers, money boxes, and more. Besides brass, the material for old keys also includes cast iron, or those fashioned from bent sheet metal.
These are genuine Taiwanese vintage pieces. Each key bears the marks of human use – rust, oxidation, and patina. The teeth are no longer sharp, and wear and tear are inevitable with age. Over time and through use, their shapes have become more rounded and smooth, adding to their rustic beauty. This patina of time is inimitable. All items are shown in their actual photographs. Please proceed with purchase only if you find these characteristics acceptable.
Beyond their function of locking and unlocking, old keys truly represent the stories and secrets of human interactions hidden behind them. Even across different times and spaces, holding an old key in your palm, can you not envision boundless possibilities? Can you not be transported back to savor that touching sentiment?
