【Tianqing Clay】
This clay was refined in 2007 and has been aged for 15 years.
The clay has undergone organic aging and re-firing to prevent issues with impurity. This process lowers the firing temperature of the clay.
The text from "Yang Xian Ming Hu Xi" (A Series of Teapots from Yangxian) describes Tianqing clay:
"Tianqing clay, from Lishu (a place name east of Huanglong Mountain in Dingshu Town), turns a dark liver color when fired. It also contains inclusions.
Shaped by mountain spirits and transformed through firing, it reveals a variety of wondrous colors.
Our Longshan Hall has fired this piece 3 times in a push-plate kiln, resulting in a liver-like hue.
Within the push-plate kiln, the circulation of flames, heat convection, and exhaust gases create localized micro-oxidation and micro-reduction. This allows the clay to undergo further transformation during firing. The final color will be lighter, retaining a more pronounced granular texture. These granules have not fully crystallized at high temperatures, resulting in richer surface layers. When light hits them, it scatters, creating a sense of depth.
While initially less brilliant than pieces fired in electric kilns, appearing dry and understated on the surface, its ability to absorb tea liquor during the aging process is exceptional due to its retained micropores and granules. The components of tea will gradually penetrate and deposit, forming a soft, mellow patina with a sense of maturation. The luster is a soft, diffuse reflection, possessing a texture that speaks of accumulated time.
【Frequently Asked Questions QA】
1. How to prepare the teapot before first use
Clean the interior and exterior. A vegetable scrubbing sponge is recommended; do not use chemical agents. Simply wash with water, and it is ready for use.
2. How to care for the teapot
After use, keep it clean and dry to prevent tea stains. Store in a well-ventilated area after use. For long-term storage in its box, allow it to air dry naturally for 1-2 months to ensure the pores fully release moisture, preventing mold.
3. How to clean tea stains or mold
Soak with enzyme cleaner.
4. How to properly warm the teapot
In cold weather, or after a long period of disuse, pour 40°C warm water over the inside and outside of the teapot, then fill the interior. This allows the pores of the Zisha clay to fully absorb moisture.
5. How to care for pieces with engravings
For teapots with engravings on the body, a soft brush is recommended for cleaning.
