Handwoven Silk Stole [Saiun*05]
Materials: 80% Silk, 20% Wool
Size: Approx. 20cm x 140cm (excluding 8cm fringe)
This small stole is handcrafted using high-quality raw silk sourced from a Nishijin, Kyoto silk thread wholesaler. The silk threads are dyed in various colors before being handwoven into a delicate stole.
The design features a plaid pattern of three silk colors and wool, originally woven in a larger size. It was then felted, shrinking it to approximately half its original dimensions. As only the wool shrinks, the silk expands, creating a unique, bubbly texture. The interplay of warp and weft colors results in a rich, layered hue.
With a fine warp count of 464 threads, and using single-twist silk that has been lightly degummed (purified) and dyed, the stole offers a smooth, crisp feel, unlike slack silk. Silk stoles possess excellent moisture-wicking, breathability, and thermal properties. Despite its compact size, this stole is wonderfully warm and plush, perfect for styling snugly around the neck or draping over the shoulders. It's a versatile piece for autumn and winter.
