Art becomes not just something to admire, but a tangible, beautiful experience. |Inspired by "Ushibori" by Kawase Hasui from the Rijksmuseum Collection Kawase Hasui (May 18, 1883 – November 7, 1957) was a Japanese artist, widely regarded as one of the most important and prolific printmakers of 20th-century Japan. He was a leading designer of the shin-hanga ("new prints") movement, which revitalized traditional Japanese woodblock prints with influences from Western painting styles (yōga). Similar to earlier Ukiyo-e prints, Hasui's work primarily featured landscapes, but his creations placed a greater emphasis on atmospheric effects and the rendering of natural light and shadow. Throughout his nearly forty-year career, he designed close to a thousand woodblock print works.
