Manufactured by Gilbert Pen Company, France's largest dip pen company, in the 1950s
Departementalen No.552 or the later No.2552 (product numbers were changed to four digits by the company in the late 1950s. Both models are shipped randomly, or you may specify the model).
The nib is flexible and easy to control, suitable for writing English (writing Chinese is less recommended). It is recommended to wash the nib with a neutral detergent before use, which can increase the nib's ink capacity.
Reference: The ink used in the photos is Lamy fountain pen ink (not shellac-based ink).
The paper used is Paper One 100g copy paper.
Differences between vintage nibs and modern nibs:
Thicker metal construction and more delicate craftsmanship.
Made with original metal (not plated), easy to handle for writing without a long break-in period.
Stronger ink holding capacity and more durable.
Important usage notes:
1. No need to fire or scrub with a toothbrush before use.
2. Some nibs may have original horizontal or vertical scratches from the factory before shipping. This was done by the manufacturer to ensure immediate usability after purchase and is not a defect.
3. If the nib gets oily, causing poor ink adhesion or flow (e.g., from touching with hands or wax on paper), simply wash it with soap. After washing and drying, it can be used.
4. Clean and dry the nib as soon as possible after use. Allow it to air dry before storing to prevent rust.
5. Minor corrosion on the pen body does not affect writing. Corrosion on the nib, however, will impact its performance.
Vintage nibs are all discontinued. The items sold are new collector's items, available while supplies last.
All items will be thoroughly inspected before shipping. If any defects are found, they will not be shipped.
