The swastika symbol, known as "Wan Zi" (卍), was introduced to China with Buddhism. The sixty-fifth volume of the *Avatamsaka Sutra*, in the chapter "Entering the Dharma Realm," states that Shakyamuni "bore the mark of the swastika on his chest, with seven places of fullness and flatness." The swastika is revered as a symbol of auspiciousness and is one of Shakyamuni's thirty-two physical marks, specifically the "Auspicious Cloud of the Sea" aspect. In the past, people often embroidered the swastika onto the bedding of newlyweds or newborn infants, or carved it into window lattices, to express wishes for unending good fortune.
