The precise control over the thickness of each glaze layer, combined with firing at 1260°C for 20 hours, allows the material to contract and flow within the kiln. This transformative process yields the captivating patterns and fluid movement reminiscent of a peacock's tail feathers. The challenge in its creation lies in the delicate balance of glaze thickness and temperature control. If the glaze is too thin or the temperature too low, the characteristic peacock feather patterns will not emerge. Conversely, if the glaze is too thick or the temperature too high, it can run onto the accompanying plate, potentially damaging both the teacup and the plate. Even ambient temperature fluctuations can influence the final outcome. Numerous factors intertwine in this process, and despite years of dedicated study, achieving absolute precision remains elusive. It is precisely this inherent unpredictability that imbues each finished piece with such precious value.
