Shuifei Sand, Imperial Sand, Zijin Sand, and Crystal Sand are all high-content quality cinnabar. Their **primary distinctions lie in color, texture, hardness, and production methods.**
**「Shuifei Sand」**
**A true Chinese red, with a slight orange undertone. Its surface has a warm, matte finish that becomes glossier with wear, developing a patina over time.**
The production method involves repeatedly grinding cinnabar into fine particles to form a paste, mixing it with water, allowing it to settle, and then collecting the upper "turbid liquid." This liquid is then allowed to settle again for purification (the Shuifei method). The cinnabar mud at the bottom is air-dried and then formed using ancient pressing techniques. The cross-section reveals evenly distributed, fine mineral sparkle.
**「Imperial Sand」**
**A brighter, more vibrant true red with higher hardness.**
This cinnabar is refined through multiple processes from natural cinnabar ore, including **crushing/grinding/magnetic separation/Shuifei/high polishing**, before being formed using ancient pressing methods. Imperial Sand has almost no visible mineral sparkle on the surface, but it is present internally. The surface is treated with a **high-polishing** process, giving it a metallic sheen that truly shines in sunlight.
**「Zijin Sand」**
**A purplish-red hue with slightly lower hardness than Imperial Sand.**
Produced from natural cinnabar ore through multiple steps like **crushing/grinding/screening**, but **without the Shuifei purification process**. Consequently, the surface is less refined and features scattered, small sparkling mineral particles, creating a "starry sky" effect.
**「Crystal Sand」**
**A purplish-red color that is translucent.**
These are large cinnabar crystals directly chipped from cinnabar ore. The crystal particles are clearly visible on the surface, appearing transparent under light and emitting a fluorescent red glow.
**> Spring Plowing, Autumn Harvest**

**Our craftsmanship is born from this very philosophy!!**
**> Cinnabar**
The earliest written records refer to cinnabar simply as "丹" (dān), a pictographic character. In ancient times, miners would excavate shafts, and "丹" depicted a well ("井") with a dot in the middle, signifying the extraction of a substance from within. This substance was cinnabar.
Because cinnabar is red, often a deep red, "朱" (zhū) also signifies red. Later, "丹砂" (dānshā) became known as "朱砂" (zhūshā). "丹" and "朱" describe the color, while "砂" describes its granular, irregular mineral form.
Cinnabar's color is enduring. Chinese painting and calligraphy are known as "丹青" (dānqīng), where "丹" refers to cinnabar. It is also a key ingredient in "Eight Treasures Seal Paste," a vital pigment.
From a Feng Shui perspective, cinnabar is collected from minerals imbued with the essence of the sun and moon, absorbing the pure energy of heaven and earth. Thus, cinnabar possesses a powerful Yang energy field. Unlike jade, which feels cool to the touch, cinnabar held in the hand feels warm.
Historically, cinnabar has been indispensable in Taoist rituals for drawing talismans, consecrating objects, warding off evil, and calming spirits. It has long been revered as a supreme artifact for inviting good fortune, transforming luck, suppressing malevolent energies, driving away evil, and attracting wealth. It symbolizes auspiciousness, prosperity, and well-being.
The "Shennong Ben Cao Jing" (Classic of Materia Medica) lists cinnabar as a superior herb, often used in traditional medicine for its properties in calming the spirit, detoxifying, and alleviating insomnia and excessive dreaming.
For us living in modern times, possessing a cinnabar artifact can also serve to cultivate self-discipline, nurture the eyes, and calm the mind.
**> Authentication**
**All cinnabar products in our collection are high-content cinnabar with a significant weight. You can authenticate them using the following methods:**
>. Burning cinnabar will turn it black. (Please heat it through another object. It is generally not recommended to burn the finished product directly, as controlling the time and area is difficult. Once blackened from prolonged exposure, it cannot be restored.)
>. Genuine cinnabar can draw orangey-red lines on paper. (To avoid damaging the appearance of the finished product, please draw on an inconspicuous area or use the complimentary bead for testing.)
**> Care**
1. Avoid Corrosives
Cinnabar is a mineral and insoluble in water. However, frequent contact with chemicals like soap and shower gel can corrode it.
2. Avoid Contact with Metals
The mineral elements in cinnabar can absorb metal ions, causing irreversible darkening or blackening of the cinnabar.
3. Avoid High Temperatures
The mercuric sulfide component of cinnabar only releases at temperatures of 380 degrees Celsius. Therefore, as long as you avoid exposing cinnabar jewelry to high-temperature environments, you can wear it with confidence.
4. Avoid Impact with Hard or Sharp Objects
Cinnabar has high hardness but is brittle; handle with care to prevent drops.
5. How to Clean
If your cinnabar appears dirty, do not soak it in water, as this can alter its original luster! Gently wipe it a few times with a slightly damp cotton cloth and allow it to air dry.
6. Oiling for Preservation
Apply a thin layer of white tea oil or olive oil to the finished product, allowing the stone to absorb the oil and become more lustrous and bright. After applying oil, seal it in a brocade box, perhaps wrapping it in plastic wrap to prevent the oil from staining the box lining.
7. Frequent Handling
Regularly handle your cinnabar jewelry by hand. This allows a very thin layer of natural oils from your skin to coat the surface, imparting an antique and elegant appearance over time.
The actual item is more exquisite and beautiful than the photos.
