Produced by C. Brandauer & Co. in Birmingham, England, circa 1920. The Glengarry Pen features a gold-plated nib, offering superior flexibility. The nib has a slight upward curve (intentionally crafted by the manufacturer, not a defect). When touching the paper during writing, this curve creates a smooth, skip-free glide that enhances fluidity, even when writing in Chinese, preventing any feeling of resistance. Essentially, it requires little to no break-in period for smooth writing. The pebble-like shape allows for better ink storage. As the nib is nearly a century old, the gold-plated surface may have accumulated impurities. Cleaning the nib with a mild detergent (like hand soap) beforehand can improve ink capacity and ensure an even smoother writing experience. Key Usage Notes: 1. Before use, there's no need for heat treatment or vigorous scrubbing with a toothbrush. If the nib has come into contact with hand oils, a simple rinse with mild detergent (hand soap) is recommended. 2. Some nibs may have horizontal or vertical marks on the front section from the original manufacturing process, allowing immediate use after purchase. These are not defects. 3. If oil contamination affects ink adhesion or flow (e.g., from touching with hands or from wax on paper), a gentle wash with soap is sufficient. Rinse, dry, and it's ready to use. 4. Clean and dry the pen promptly after use. Allow it to air dry completely before storing to prevent nib corrosion. 5. Minor corrosion on the pen body does not affect writing, but corrosion on the nib itself will. 6. As an antique object over 50 years old, it may bear signs of age. Occasional minor corrosion might be present at the tail end of the nib, but not on the writing tip, so it does not impact writing quality.
