Artist introduction_
Nandor Brenner Viday, born in 1903 in Budapest, Hungary, was a painter and graphic artist who initially studied at the Academy of Art with Eugene Geno Langhi from 1918-21 He studied under Master Jeno Haranghy and later at the Hungarian Academy of Fine Arts from 1923-25 under Master Oszkar Glatz, and then studied art at the Académie Julian in Paris.
He began exhibiting his work in 1920 and immediately attracted attention. In 1925 he received the Hungarian Benczur Prize, and in 1926 he won the Gold Medal at the Hungarian National Exhibition for his baroque etchings on religious themes, followed by the Ferencz Jozsef Prize in 1928.
In 1930 he exhibited at the Ernst Museum and in 1937 at the Studio Salon he became a member of the Munkacsy Ceh and Szinyei Merse art groups.
His paintings reflect the influence of naturalistic and representational elements and he participated in major exhibitions in Hungary, Europe and throughout the United States. Known for its Jewish genre scenes, chess scenes, and other early 20th century Salon-style paintings.
