Vegetable-tanned leather is known for its firm and resilient texture. The surface color gradually darkens. Coupled with the natural oils from your hands and friction from daily use, it develops a lustrous patina. This allows leather goods made from vegetable-tanned leather to transform uniquely with time and the user's habits. Leather is a byproduct of the livestock industry. Therefore, ranchers do not go to great lengths to protect the cattle's skin. As a result, cattle may acquire marks from insect bites, scratches, or thorns during their lives. Free-roaming cattle might also bear brands, and as they grow, their skin develops natural lines and wrinkles. In cases of difficult births for cows, there might be surgical scars. The process of skinning the cattle for meat can also leave knife marks. These marks are faithfully preserved on the leather when it is crafted into cowhide, serving as a testament to the animal's life journey. They often opt for processes like sanding the leather surface and then applying a surface coating to achieve a clean look, but this strips away the natural character. At DOZI Leather Workshop, we embrace these natural markings from the cow's life. Unless they are extensive, we do not specifically avoid them during production. Custom font selection is possible. ▴ Engraving area is up to 60mm x 12mm, with a fee of NT$150. ▴ Laser engraving uses a laser beam to create a high-temperature burn on the leather surface. The resulting characters will have a charred black appearance. Therefore, this service is not suitable for black, dark blue, or other very dark leather colors. ▴ Some products require laser engraving before production. For ready-made items, laser engraving cannot be applied, and a separate production schedule will be arranged. Please contact customer service for estimated production times when selecting this service. 🌞 Care and Maintenance -------------------- Frequent use is the best form of maintenance. Avoid storing leather in humid environments. If the leather accidentally gets wet, wipe it immediately with a dry cloth and allow it to air dry in a cool, well-ventilated area. Do not expose it to direct sunlight, as this can cause the leather to harden and deteriorate. Once dry, apply leather conditioner to replenish the leather's oils and consider using a waterproof spray to protect against accidental spills and enhance surface protection. If the leather item is to be stored or unused for an extended period, place it in an electronic dehumidifying cabinet with humidity controlled between 50%-60% to prevent mold. Alternatively, a sealed bag with a desiccant pack can achieve similar results. For repairs, a nominal labor fee will apply. 5. Our studio prefers to use natural leather materials. Cowhide typically has minimal processing and surface coatings, resulting in variations in color, texture, and occasional natural marks. If you require a flawless leather surface, it may be difficult for us to accommodate your request, and we regret that we cannot accept orders specifying a "flawless leather surface." Furthermore, once an item has been engraved or laser-carved, returns will not be accepted unless there was a production error.
