The Great Buddha Hall cactus, *Echinocereus subinermis*, also uniquely known as the "Micro-spined Echinocereus," belongs to the Echinocereus genus within the Cactaceae family. It is native to northern Mexico (Southern Sonora, Western Chihuahua, Northern Sinaloa). The genus name *Echinocereus* is derived from the Greek word *echinos* (hedgehog) and the Latin *cereus* (candle), referring to the spiny, candle-like floral tubes of the genus. Its stems are succulent, cylindrical or columnar, reaching 10-20 cm in height and about 7-9 cm in diameter. They typically have 5-11 ribs, usually straight, though some specimens exhibit spiral ribs. The stems are deep green, turning purplish-red on the ribs and at the apex under intense sunlight and cold temperatures. The areoles on the ribs are white, usually bearing one central spine or none, and typically 3-8 radial spines, each about 0.5 cm long. 【Flowering】 Flowers emerge from areoles near the stem's apex. The floral tubes are spiny, and the flowers are large and striking yellow, measuring about 10-12 cm in diameter, with a green column. Each flower can last up to 5 days, with the blooming season extending from late spring to summer. It takes approximately 4-5 years from seed to flowering. As summer arrives, it unfurls stunningly beautiful, bright yellow cactus flowers. The sensory experience of this yellow hue is indescribable – elegant yet noble, exuding warmth and immense joy. 【Care Instructions】 The Great Buddha Hall cactus is robust and relatively easy to cultivate. It tolerates some shade but dislikes perpetually moist soil. Frequent watering, especially in winter, should be avoided. It thrives in environments with light shade to direct morning sunlight. A well-draining medium is preferred. During the growing season, it can benefit from more water. Once dormant after winter, water conservation is recommended. It is said to tolerate temperatures down to -2°C, but frost damage should be prevented.
