Coalport porcelain was founded by John Rose in Coalport, Shropshire, England in 1795. In 1820, Coalport developed a type of hard porcelain called "Feltspar" (Improved Feldspar Porcelain) in reference to the key ingredient used in its production: feldspar, a mineral essential in the manufacture of porcelain. The addition of feldspar increased the strength and translucency of porcelain, making it more durable and lustrous than earlier soft porcelain types.
