♥ New Interpretation of Ancient Texts ♥
"In heaven, I wish to be a pair of flying birds" comes from The Song of Everlasting Regret by the Tang Dynasty poet Bai Juyi, and is one of the classic lines depicting the love story of Emperor Xuanzong and Yang Guifei. The full line reads: "In heaven, I wish to be a pair of flying birds; on earth, I wish to be a branch intertwined." The "pair of flying birds" refers to a legendary bird, often used to symbolize deep affection between husband and wife or lovers, signifying a promise to be forever united, never to part, even after death.
At first glance, this seems like a romantic, classical vow, as if telling the story of two people who, even after death, hold hands and soar together in the sky. But if we place this phrase in a modern context, it could also serve as a reminder to find that person who is "always in sync" with you—someone you can move houses with, pull all-nighters to finish reports, binge-watch shows together, and snack without hesitation. After all, isn’t that the true spirit of the "pair of flying birds"?—Two souls soaring side by side, sharing everything in life, from joy to hardship.
