**Large size can only be delivered.** Artist: Yoshitomo Nara Born on December 5, 1959, Japanese artist Yoshitomo Nara is known for his eclectic paintings of melancholy, cartoon-like children and animals. After graduating from the Aichi Prefectural University of Arts and Design with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Fine Arts, he went to study at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in the late 1980s, and throughout his life he continued to draw inspiration from both Eastern and Western cultures. Nara's childhood in postwar Japan, when more and more people were exposed to Western pop culture such as comic books, Disney animations, and pop music, is often cited as an early influence on his work. Although he has always stated that he does not draw inspiration from Japanese manga, his distinctive wide-eyed portraits often prompt art critics to draw parallels between the two. Instead, he insists that by pairing innocent children with cynical expressions or out-of-place objects (such as blades), his work is elevated to a different spiritual level, reflecting on important religious and philosophical issues. Nara has many loyal fans and has held many solo exhibitions around the world, and held a major retrospective exhibition that traveled to many places between 2003 and 2005.
