【What is Botanical Dye?】
It is a dyeing technique that extracts natural dyes from flowers, leaves, roots, stems, trees, bark, and fruits. A protein-based paste is applied evenly to the fabric to bind the fibers and natural dyes. By blending a minimal amount of chemical dyes, colorfastness is improved without the use of mordants (reducing discoloration from light, sweat, and washing, while stabilizing the pigments). This method brings out beautiful, natural colors on the fabric.
Unlike chemical dyes, natural dyes are not made from a single component.
A single color contains numerous pigments. As both strong and weak pigments diffusely reflect light, the resulting color appears gentle and soothing to our eyes.
We hope you enjoy the vibrant yet deep and tender hues unique to botanical dyeing.
Botanical dyeing produces less water pollution and requires less water consumption during the dyeing process, making it an eco-friendly method that is gentle on both the earth and its people.
