The elegant beauty of blue and white porcelain has been passed down for thousands of years. The Fahua color technique adds layers of three-dimensional painting to the porcelain, giving the picture more depth and layering. In this course, we will lead you to experience this unique craft, experience the relief painting technique of Fahuacai, and understand the elegant charm of blue and white porcelain.
Fahuacai is characterized by bright colors and three-dimensional patterns. Common patterns include dragons and phoenixes, lotus flowers, and twined flowers. It is often used in Buddhist offerings, temple decorations, and court utensils. This technique was widely popular in the Ming Dynasty. During the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty, the Jingdezhen kilns also imitated it and developed a more refined glaze color technology. However, Fahuacai was once lost. In recent years, its skills were reproduced in Taiwan and gradually spread back to China, attracting attention again.
The craftsman teacher will start by talking about the history of blue and white porcelain and Fahuacai, and lead everyone to understand the aesthetic characteristics and meticulous process of this traditional technique. Through hands-on practice, students can experience the layers of brushstrokes required to sketch delicate patterns on porcelain, and then use colors to render them so that the floral patterns appear to emerge on the porcelain surface, showing unique light and shadow layers and artistic effects.
This course provides a variety of porcelain blanks for students to choose from. The finished works will be fired in a kiln by a skilled craftsman to determine the color, and can also be customized with gold inlay, making each piece a unique work of art!
