Vintage English Old Willow teacups and saucers made by Washington Pottery.
Washington Pottery Ltd was an earthenware manufacturer at the Washington Works in Stoke-on-Trent. It was operational from 1946 to 1970, when it was taken over by English Ironstone Pottery.
The Old Willow design is the same as the Blue Willow design that was developed by potters in the Caughley Pottery Works and was produced using the transferware process by the Spode pottery in the 1790’s. The design is based on The Green Willow, a Japanese fairy tale.
The cups have some wear on the gold due to usage as well as small production flaws. One cup has a small chip off the foot that cannot be seen when in use. Three of the saucers have fine craquelure and all four have some wear on the gold and surface marks due to usage. The photographs are a part of the description.
cup: 9cm diameter x 6.5cm height (not incl. handle)
saucer: 14.5cm diameter
