Water-milled cinnabar, Emperor cinnabar, Purple-gold cinnabar, and Crystal cinnabar are all high-content quality cinnabar. Their **primary distinctions lie in color, texture, hardness, and manufacturing methods.**
**「Water-Milled Cinnabar」**
**True red, with a slight orange undertone. It has a warm, matte finish that becomes more lustrous with wear, developing a patina.**
The manufacturing process involves repeatedly grinding fine cinnabar particles into a paste, mixing with water, allowing it to settle, and then collecting the upper "turbid liquid." This is then left to sediment again (the water-milling purification process). The bottom cinnabar mud is air-dried and then pressed using ancient methods. The cross-section reveals uniformly fine, sparkling mineral particles within.
**「Emperor Cinnabar」**
**A brighter, true red hue with higher hardness.**
Its production involves multiple stages of purification from natural raw cinnabar ore, including **crushing, grinding, magnetic separation, water-milling, and high-polishing**, followed by ancient pressing methods. Emperor cinnabar has almost no visible mineral sparkle on the surface, though it is present internally. The surface undergoes a **high-polishing** process to achieve a metallic sheen, especially vibrant in sunlight.
**「Purple-Gold Cinnabar」**
**A purplish-red color, slightly less hard than Emperor cinnabar.**
This is produced through multiple stages from natural raw cinnabar ore, including **crushing, grinding, and screening**, but **without the water-milling purification.** Consequently, the surface is less refined and features scattered, small sparkling mineral particles, resembling a starry sky.
**「Crystal Cinnabar」**
**A purplish-red color, translucent.**
These are large cinnabar crystals directly chipped from cinnabar ore. The crystalline structure is clearly visible on the surface. When illuminated, each piece is transparent and emits a fluorescent red glow.
**> Spring Plowing, Autumn Harvest**
**In this world, all unfolding, all poetic, all beautiful things tend to happen naturally, much like the turning of the seasons.**
**Learn to slow down, clear your mind, approach life with gentleness, revere the power of time, and allow everything to grow naturally, like a tree, focused and fearless, developing clear growth rings.**
**Our craftsmanship is also like this!!**
**> Cinnabar**
The earliest textual records refer to cinnabar with a single character, "丹" (dān). "丹" is an ideogrammatic character. In ancient times, miners would excavate underground shafts, and from these shafts, they would extract minerals. Thus, the character "丹" is essentially the character "井" (jǐng, well) with a dot in the middle, signifying something extracted from a mine. This substance was cinnabar.
Because cinnabar is red, often a deep red, "朱" (zhū) also means red. Later, cinnabar was called "朱砂" (zhūshā), with "丹" and "朱" describing the color, and "砂" describing its shape, referring to irregular granular minerals.
The color of cinnabar is enduring. Chinese calligraphy and painting are known as "丹青" (dānqīng), where "丹" refers to cinnabar. An indispensable component of pigments, "eight-treasure ink pad," also has cinnabar as its main ingredient.
From a Feng Shui perspective, cinnabar is collected from minerals that have gathered the essence of the sun and moon, absorbing the pure energy of heaven and earth. Therefore, cinnabar possesses a powerful Yang energy magnetic field. We observe that jade feels cool to the touch, while cinnabar held in the hand feels warm.
Since ancient times, cinnabar has been used in Taoist rituals for drawing talismans, consecration, warding off evil, and suppressing malevolent energies. Cinnabar has always been regarded as an ultimate item for bringing good fortune, warding off evil, attracting blessings, and accumulating wealth. It carries auspicious meanings of great fortune and well-being.
The *Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing* (Classic of Materia Medica) lists cinnabar as a superior medicinal substance, often used in treatments for calming the spirit, detoxifying, and alleviating insomnia with excessive dreaming.
Living in modern times, owning one or two cinnabar artifacts can also be beneficial for self-cultivation, nurturing the eyes and mind.
**> Authentication**
**All cinnabar products in this store are high-content cinnabar with a significant weight. You can use the following methods for authentication:**
>. Burning cinnabar will turn it black. (Please heat indirectly. It is generally not recommended to directly burn finished products as the time and area cannot be controlled. If it turns black after prolonged heating, it cannot be restored.)
>. Genuine cinnabar can draw an orange-red line on paper. (To avoid damaging the appearance of the finished product, please choose an inconspicuous area to make a mark, or use one of the gifted beads to draw the line.)
**> Care**
**If cinnabar jewelry does not have accessories made of metal or plant-based materials (such as wood, bamboo, bodhi seeds, etc.), it can be exposed to water appropriately, but it is not suitable for prolonged soaking, as this will affect its luster.**
**For braided cord items, it is not recommended to get them wet. After cleaning, they should be air-dried before wearing, as damp cords can lead to excessive moisture when worn, which is not ideal for health.**
1. Avoid Corrosion
Cinnabar is a mineral and is insoluble in water. However, frequent contact with chemicals such as soap and shower gel can cause corrosion.
2. Avoid Contact with Metal Objects
The mineral elements in cinnabar can absorb metal ions, causing irreversible darkening or blackening.
3. Avoid High Temperatures
The mercuric sulfide component of cinnabar will only release at temperatures of 380 degrees Celsius. Therefore, as long as cinnabar jewelry is kept away from high-temperature environments during normal wear, it can be worn with confidence.
4. Avoid Collisions with Hard or Sharp Objects
Cinnabar has high hardness but is brittle, so take care to prevent drops.
5. How to Clean
If your cinnabar appears dirty, do not soak it in water, as this can alter its original luster! You can gently wipe it a few times with a slightly damp cotton cloth, and it will be fine after a period of airing.
6. Oiling Method for Maintenance
Apply a layer of white tea oil or olive oil to the finished product. Allow the surface to fully absorb the oil, making it more crystal clear and bright. If applying oil, you can seal it in a brocade box, perhaps wrapping it in a piece of plastic wrap to prevent the oil from staining the brocade box lining.
7. Frequent Handling
Regularly handle the cinnabar jewelry worn on your person with your hands. This allows a very thin layer of oil from your skin to adhere to the surface, making it appear more antique and elegant over time.
The actual item is more exquisite and beautiful than the photos.
