ABOUT ITEM'S ORIGIN (You can SKIP it!) First postwar Smena that was in production in 1952, start of very successful series of folk cameras manufactured in millions. Bodies of first cameras were made from bakelite and has nicer design than the newer ones, but latest cameras was more light and reliable. Smena camera is much smaller than for example Zorki or Zenit and was very inexpensive in Soviet terms. I don't know any other Soviet camera which has so beautiful ratio "quality/price" than Smena's! I used same cameras during more than 12 years and always received beautiful images in very difficult conditions of shootings. I never abraded to broken or to loose those simple camera, but it survived all adventures with Me, even it was sunk few times and sometimes was dirty into mud! Smena-Symbol is uncommon camera because it has film advance lever, "hot shoe" flash connection and improved shutter mechanism... finally it should provide better image quality than other Smena cameras. ITEM'S CONDITION: EXCELLENT+++ Cosmetically camera in EXCELLENT condition, it mostly stored last 28 years and was in using very short time.... Examine item's photos, please. All functions are available. TECHNICAL FEATURES * Frame size 24x36mm. * Central shutter provide speeds 1/250, 1/125, 1/60, 1/30, 1/15 & B. There is two scales connected with shutter speed: scale of weather symbols on top of the lens and usual shutter speeds at right side of the lens. * Synchronization with flash at any shutter speed (tested!), first time in history of Smena camera occurred "hot shoe" flash connection. * Shutter release lever makes release more smooth, but the camera is without usual conic groove for cable release. * Lens: three element coated T-43 (Triplet-43) 40mm, same lenses provides very clear, sharp and contrast images. The lens is very clean, without scratches and fungus. * The space between film and lens have additional edges which reduce light reflections inside the camera, thus it should provide better image quality than previous Smena cameras. * Aperture from 4 to 16 without clicks. There is two types of scale connected with aperture: usual scale and scale of film speeds in ASA and DIN. * Scale of film speed allows to use weather symbols connected with shutter speed, thus You can receive properly exposed images without any automatic or light meter. Modern negative films will provide very good quality in that case. * Film speeds: from 16 to 250 ASA (no clicks), You can use any other films with sensitivity more than 250 ASA, but You'll have over-exposition at bright Sun and You'll have to use neutral filters. * Focusing from 1m to infinity according with scale of distances (both in foots and in meters) or with symbols of distances (portrait, group, building). You can to use external rangefinder "Blik" to make focusing more exact, but in most of cases definition of distance "on eye" provides excellent sharpness. * Filter mount: 35.5x0.5mm. * Tripod mount: standard groove 1/4 inch. * Film winding is from cassette to built-in take-up spool. You should not to wind film after each shutter release with separate wheel, like at previous Smena cameras! Film advance lever provides very nice film winding according with shutter cocking. * Film rewind provided by convenient crank according with special button which release the transport sprocket.
