PorkPie Hat decorated with Ashoke band hand woven by the Yoruba tribe of Nigeria

This is a Porkpie Hat made from the body of a wool hat. The band wrapped around the crown of the hat is made of Ashoke, a hand-woven cloth of the Yoruba people who live in the Nigerian forest region of West Africa. Ashoke means "the best cloth" and is the traditional cloth worn by the Yoruba for both men and women in everyday life and on various ceremonial occasions. Ashoke is usually woven using a "jump weave" technique, where "flying threads" are created through regularly drilled holes. (I don't know the proper English for these terms) Although it is the traditional cloth of the Yoruba people, it is so innovative that famous designers in Europe and the United States use it for bags and clothes because of the use of brightly colored threads in some places. It has a Japanese wabi-sabi feel and should be used for kimono belts, and its fabric is tight and dense and strong.
