He has received numerous accolades, including the Hans Christian Andersen Award, the highest honor in children's literature, in 2000. Originally creating illustrations for medical purposes, he laid a strong foundation for the delicate lines in his work. His use of vibrant colors and his skill in creating dramatic scenes are notable. The image of the gorilla frequently appears in his creations.
