→ About the Work Wood firing, one of the oldest ceramic firing methods, uses wood as fuel and requires four days to reach the target temperature. The ash and oils from the burning wood become the unique outer layer of each wood-fired piece, known as ash glaze. The artistic value of wood firing speaks for itself. The distinctive ash glaze ensures that no two pieces are exactly alike, making uniqueness its most revered quality. Thus, wood-fired creations best showcase the artist's personality and highlight the collector's discerning eye for art. Wood firing can be broadly divided into unglazed and glazed firing. Unglazed ware is fired directly on the clay body without any glaze, revealing the most rustic texture of wood firing. Glazed ware, on the other hand, adds the effects of various glazes to the natural ash glaze, resulting in even more diverse creations. Beyond its artistic value, wood-fired ceramics, due to the adherence of natural carbon during firing, make water or tea taste sweeter and more refreshing. This inherent quality enhances the practicality of wood-fired ware, complementing its aesthetic appeal. Therefore, a good wood-fired piece must be not only beautiful but also functional.
