This tea bowl is a small one but holds its own in character. I wheel threw this bowl with red Japanese clay. A black glaze was applied and then soda fired. The soda which is sprayed into the kiln at high temperature then vaporizes and turns into a glaze. It hits pots in a variety of angles in the kiln creating unusual effects that cannot be reproduced. This bowl has nice golden speckles.
Another interesting feature of this bowl is that it was next to another in the kiln that was glazed purple. The purple glaze from the other pot 'jumped' over to this tea bowl producing a mark down one side. This purple drip was not intended but I'm glad it did! It was a surreptitious moment in the kiln. The drip does look similar to the map of Taiwan from where I work from. A meant to be kind of thing.
My seal is marked on the side of the bowl.
Both dishwasher and microwave safe.
