**Humpback WhaleHumpback Whale**
Humpback whales, also known as big-winged whales, can be found in almost all major oceans. It was named because its dorsal fin and dorsal tumor resemble the "zato" of a visually impaired performer who carried a lute during the Edo period in Japan.
Humpback whales are famous for their leaping posture, extra-long pectoral fins and the complex pulse-wave calls of adults. Each humpback whale has its own frequency and amplitude, and usually only male whales emit more obvious calls during courtship.
The calls of male humpback whales continue to change as they age, presumably because novel calls are more popular with female whales. The strange thing is that their calls are rarely repeated, even after more than ten years.
**IUCN level: Least Concern (LC)**
