▰▰▰▰▰▰Marcel Boucher▰▰▰▰▰▰
Founded in 1937 by French designer Marcel Boucher, the brand operated for less than two decades, closing by 1955. Pieces marked with the copyright symbol © and "Marboux" date to approximately 1955.
Boucher's father passed away when he was young, and his mother was a seamstress. During World War I, Boucher joined the medical corps. After the war, he apprenticed at Cartier and by 1922 was a designer at Cartier's New York branch. He also designed jewelry for Van Cleef & Arpels. After being laid off in 1929 due to the Great Depression, Boucher joined Mazer, a costume jewelry company. Eight years later, he established his own Marcel Boucher and Cie Company NY, quickly capturing consumers' hearts with his opulent creations featuring birds, insects, and floral motifs.
Many of Boucher's works are now considered collectible items. Sterling silver jewelry from the WWII era, bearing the "Parisiana" (1942-1947) mark, is particularly valuable.
