These were all such lovely patterns that I couldn't bear to discard them, yet seeing them piled up in a drawer felt like a waste. I pondered for a long time what I could create with them, when I happened upon a Tokyo TV variety show, "Follow Along Home," which featured the story of a young woman who "lives in the 80s." At the Shimokitazawa station in Tokyo, in the early morning hours, Mari-san, with her distinctive hairstyle and fashion sense, stood out from the crowd like a traveler from another era. As the film crew followed her home, it became clear that it wasn't just her attire; stepping into Mari-san's home felt like stepping back into the Showa period. When asked by the crew, "Does this style and your interests make you popular with the opposite sex?" Mari-san smiled and replied, "Not particularly, but I don't want to change for that. Rather than conforming to societal expectations and catering to others' preferences and trends, I'd rather do what I love. That's how one truly lives a happy life!" As she spoke, her eyes sparkled with a radiant light. Those who are passionate about what they love are truly captivating. Each piece of discontinued fabric I use is one-of-a-kind. I hope to pass on their unique radiance through my creations, to each and every special individual.
