When opened, it functions as a loupe and a mirror, and when folded, it becomes a magnifying glass (approximately 8x magnification), offering three distinct uses. The mirror utilizes a traditional technique called "suisui," which uses pure silver for its reflective surface, rather than the common aluminum coating. This results in a high-quality mirror known for its brilliance. The loupe features a Katako lens (1.7x magnification) manufactured in Hirano Ward, Osaka City. Katako lenses are a type of lens with a flat and a convex surface, once used in reading glasses. They offer a wide focal range and provide a clear, sharp image right to the edges. Currently, there is only one factory in Japan capable of producing these lenses, making them quite rare. By crafting these optical components with high-transmittance glass that contains minimal impurities, the resulting lenses and mirror are exceptionally bright and clear. The frame is meticulously carved one by one by artisans using high-quality acetate, a material derived from plants, primarily cotton and pulp. Acetate is known for its gentle feel on the skin and is commonly used in the frames of luxury eyeglasses. The folding mechanism incorporates hinge technology typically used in eyeglasses, showcasing the advanced craftsmanship from Sabae, a renowned center for eyewear production. It comes with a leather strap for wearing around your neck and a pouch for convenient storage when folded.
