Vegetable tanning is the earliest tanning method, utilizing tanning agents derived from plant-based tannins. This process involves repeatedly soaking the hide in tanning solutions of varying concentrations, taking one to two months to complete. Vegetable-tanned leather is free from harmful chemicals like heavy metals, making it safe for direct skin contact. It also preserves the leather's natural grain. Over time, with exposure to sunlight and moisture, the leather develops a beautiful patina, deepens in color, and acquires unique marks of use – a process some affectionately call 'leather cultivation'!
