Vintage handmade and handpainted Westerwald style pitcher. Westerwald salt-glazed pottery originates from the Westerwald region of Germany and is known for its distinctive gray stoneware with cobalt blue decorations. First produced in the 17th century, the salt-glazing technique creates a glossy, slightly textured surface by adding salt to the kiln during firing. Its durability and elegant designs made it popular for tankards, jugs, and storage vessels. Estimated first half of the last century, most likely German. This item is in fair condition with production flaws, which are inherent in handmade items like this one, as well as small chips and surface marks as well as discoloration due to usage.
