The former dominance still lingers, yet the ancient era makes it hard to imagine the form of the ocean's sovereign. 【Main Stone Introduction】 • Otodus obliquus tooth fossil Otodus obliquus existed during the Eocene epoch, the second epoch of the Paleogene period, which began approximately 56 million years ago and ended 34 million years ago. Paleontologists suggest that Megalodon (Otodus megalodon) belongs to the genus Otodus, and Otodus obliquus is an ancestor of Megalodon. Marine biologists, however, believe that Megalodon and the Great White Shark should both belong to the genus Carcharodon. In the legends of many ancient cultures, shark teeth were considered powerful talismans, worn to ward off evil.
