"Amelie" is a French romantic comedy directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and co-written by Guillaume Laurant, released in 2001. The film depicts Amelie's decision to start helping those around her after hearing the news of Princess Diana's death in the summer of 1997, leading to small actions. As these small actions succeed, she discovers Nino, who collects discarded photos from under the photo booth. As she continuously discovers his quirks and details, Amelie also begins to feel emotions beyond simple altruism, and decides to launch a new series of actions.
Every small thing matters. I really like this detail handled in the movie, just as Amelie always notices the corners of the movie screen. Her world is not large, yet it is full of details. Through her small actions, she stirs up some ripples. Although they cannot be reported as major events, they are enough to become gossip passed among neighbors.
