While Kashmiri scarves from Northern India might initially appear vibrant with motifs like paisley and colorful embroidery or beadwork, they transform into a more subdued elegance when draped. The patterns become less pronounced, leaving behind an impression of color blocks and fragmented beauty, with intricate details worth savoring. Therefore, we often showcase our scarves draped or rolled into a ball to help you envision how they might look when worn.
🐑 Kashmiri boiled wool craftsmanship uses 100% wool and offers a certain degree of warmth. They are primarily divided into three different weights: sheer weave (interlocking yarn), three-layer yarn, and regular boiled wool. Among these, the "sheer weave" is the lightest and most versatile for all seasons, perfect for shielding from the sun or styling in spring and summer, and still exquisitely practical for Taiwan's winters. The "three-layer yarn" is composed of three layers of wool yarn, creating a thicker center with a light, flowing edge, offering a dreamy quality. The thickness in the middle is akin to regular boiled wool, appearing sheer yet providing ample warmth, suitable for spring, autumn, and winter, instantly imbuing your style with a fresh, exotic charm. The "regular" boiled wool scarves are thick and warm throughout, ideal for those who feel the cold easily, providing the warmth of a "little sun" during winter and cold snaps. They also serve beautifully as a cozy sofa blanket in winter. Their vibrant colors are perfect for creating fashionable looks against snowy backdrops.

Collection/Wearing and Care Instructions:
★ Each unique handmade wool artwork is crafted by an artisan, and no two are exactly alike.
★ Handmade wool products may exhibit slight irregularities characteristic of handcrafting, unlike machine-made items that are perfectly uniform. There might be a displaced yarn or minor variations in dyeing. (If issues are significant, not within the scope of minor handmade imperfections, and clearly visible to the naked eye, we will highlight them with specific notes. If you are particularly concerned about the handmade aesthetic, please consider this carefully. If you haven't purchased handmade textiles before, feel free to message us for details on the specific item.)
★ Wool products should not be machine washed. Dry cleaning once per season is recommended. If hand washing is necessary, use a wool-specific detergent or shampoo, gently washing separately. (Darker textiles with hand dyeing may experience some color bleeding.) Air dry and iron at a low temperature with a towel placed underneath (avoid direct sunlight).
★ The items we select are of a delicate, artistic quality, especially our cashmere products, which require gentle handling. Fingernails, jewelry, and metal zippers or Velcro on bags and clothing can easily snag the yarn, so please handle with care. While cashmere is lighter and softer, our wool products are more resistant to friction. We select wool from the first shearing or lamb's wool, or use boiled wool techniques, making them softer and more skin-friendly than regular wool. Our personal experience is that they do not cause noticeable itching. If you are particularly sensitive, we will indicate it. If you are very concerned about itching, please message us.
★ An eco-friendly, minimalist kraft paper box is included for gift packaging, perfect for your dearest loved ones.
Fairy Star Selects - Northern Indian Kashmiri Boiled Wool Embroidered Scarf/Shawl
Boiled Wool Scarf/
Due to the higher altitude and lower boiling point in the Kashmiri plateau region, a unique boiled wool technique has developed. Repeated boiling and drying processes result in fluffier, softer wool that is more skin-friendly than regular wool products. The multi-layered yarn construction is exceptionally thick and soft, providing excellent wind resistance, complemented by meticulously colored hand-embroidered yarn for exquisite detail (can be worn on both sides; one side features a different color or a lighter hue. Note that the reverse side may have a few handmade yarn knots and thread ends; if you don't mind, both sides can be worn).
Traditional Kani Craft/
Kani is a classical Indian weaving art (not printing). Traditionally, artisans used wooden shuttles to weave patterns like vines, flowers, paisley, and maple leaves thread by thread. Each piece took months to create. Nowadays, machine-woven versions are more common, requiring meticulous hand-cutting of threads on the back, leaving warp threads visible, resembling impressionist paintings. Some people also enjoy wearing these pieces on the reverse side.
Hand Embroidery/
The embroidery threads on the entire shawl are meticulously hand-stitched, one by one. Unlike machine embroidery, they may not be perfectly aligned or flat but possess the charm of fine handcraftsmanship. Filled with exquisite, delicate details, adorned with vibrant vines or the paisley motif representing eternity and royalty, it evokes a romantic Bohemian garden feel.
Kalenkali Hand Block Print & Embroidery/
This combines India's renowned block printing technique with hand embroidery. The beautiful and intricate printed patterns cover the entire shawl, with various colored embroidery threads outlining the patterns. The 'piano border' at the bottom also features a Kani-like charm, offering a glimpse into the colorful and exquisite craftsmanship of two traditional techniques, making it a collectible piece.
