Inspired by the cinematic masterpiece, Life of Pi—
One of my most beloved films, it resonates deeply with its profound meaning and lingering resonance.
Perhaps each individual connects with it on different levels, whether religious, philosophical, or existential.
For me, the most poignant moment is the ending: Pi and the tiger survive their ordeal, only for the tiger to leap into the forest without a backward glance. Pi weeps, and so do I.
After over 200 days together at sea, could the tiger truly have felt no attachment? A simple turn of the head would have sufficed.
It reminds me of my own house cat, who lived with me for 13 years before I moved abroad three years ago. I often wondered if I held any place in his heart. He wouldn't come when called, only acknowledging me when hungry, then turning away once satisfied.
"I wish my cat were more like a dog, always by my side, someone I could even take for walks," I'd often lament to those around me.
Yet, in the final days of his life, despite his failing health, he held on with all his might, waiting for me to return from my studies on the other side of the world, just to see me one last time.
Perhaps I did hold a place in his heart after all!
I am grateful we had a proper farewell, a gentle goodbye.
This is dedicated to all who have found resonance in this story.
